- Eric W. Kornmeier, Sr. went home to be with his parents, Karl and Margarete (Enders) Kornmeier, on December 18, 2017. He was born in Newark, NJ, on July 19, 1942.
Eric served in the US Air Force from 1960-1964. He was employed at Hoffmann La-Roche Pharmaceuticals, in Nutley, NJ, for 48 years. He joined the East Rutherford Volunteer Fire Department in 1969 and retired in 2002. In that time he served as Lieutenant in 1972, Captain in 1978, Department Chief in 1990, member Crew Chief's Association in 1991, Delegate to NJ State Fireman's Convention, member South Bergen Chief's Association, member NJ State Fire Chief's Association, and life member NJ State Fire Chief's Association.
Eric is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diane (Hale) Kornmeier of Sargentville; children, Annette Tomasi, Eric Kornmeier, Jr., both of Newnan, GA, and Kimberly Kornmeier of Portland; grandchildren, Christopher Tomasi, Nicholas Kornmeier, Emily Tomasi, Gretchen O'Connor, and Mustafa Taufik.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will be remembered for his love of the fire department and his organizational skills.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00-6:00 on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28th at the Sargentville Chapel with Pastor Drown officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery, Sargentville.
