Levant Ellery M. Barker, 85, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was born in Ludlow, June 15, 1933, son of Everett and Mary (Page) Barker.
As a teenager, Ellery worked in the woods with his father. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in California and Germany. He was employed for many years in the shoe industry, earned his business degree through the GI bill, worked for a local accounting business, and later worked in the auto parts industry until retirement in 2012.
Ellery was predeceased by his sister, Barbara; brothers, Gary and Wendell; as well as wife, Imogene and daughter, Rox-Anne. Surviving are siblings, Ernie, Clifford, Fred, Sheldon, Lois, Astrid, Peter and Dale; daughter, Kim and her husband, Rex Kneeland, of Levant; daughter, Catherine and her husband, Eric Wentworth, of Portland; grandchildren, Asher and Riley Shryock of South Portland, Morgan and Christina Kneeland of Stetson, Sarah and Todd Roughgarden of Bowdoinham; as well as great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan Roughgarden of Bowdoinham.
Ellery found love later in life with Gladys McCann, who brought much joy and fulfilment to his retirement years. Gladys went to the Lord in October 2017. We rejoice that they are together in Heaven's eternity!
Ellery's daughters would like to give a heartfelt thank you to special friend, Susan Kenny of Orrington; to Dad's brother, Fred Barker and his partner, Barb Djavaheri, of Framingham; to the McCann children and their families; Timmy and Teresa McCann; Diane Anderson and Raymond Pelkey; Terry and Cricket McCann; Lori and Kurt Goodine; Lisa and Terry Jordan; Tommy and Missy McCann. Thank you also to Pastor Jerry Wright, Harvest Chapel, for wearing well the shoes of the gospel; and Pastor David Gardiner, Hospice Chaplain, for letting your bright light shine before others.
