- Edward Joseph Holland, Jr. was born in Bangor, Maine to Rose Marie (nee Gallagher) and Edward Joseph Holland Sr. in 1921, the oldest of three sons.
The family belonged to St John's Catholic Church in Bangor. Ed attended Longfellow School for first grade and Mary Snow School through 8th grade. John Bapst was his high school. Ed graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He had trained in classical music from a young age, playing the piano, the flute, and the clarinet. He played clarinet in the University of Maine orchestra and marching band. He played piano his whole life.
After he graduated, he went to Texas working for Cabot Corporation. It was there that he met Bernadine, who was working just down the street from where he was living at the time. They married and had four children: Marie, Joe, Cecilia, and Phyllis.
Bernadine and Ed lived in Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, England, Arkansas, and New Mexico. They explored every place they lived. They discovered the wonders of nature always. And they loved life. They both died in Dallas, Texas -- Bernadine in 2013 and Ed in 2016. They will be buried in Mt. Pleasant Catholic cemetery in Bangor, Maine.
His wife Bernadine, his brother Hugh and his sister-in-law Rita, and Ed's daughter Cecilia predeceased him. He is survived by his brother John and sister-in-law Peggy. He is also survived by his three other children.
