- Edith Velma Burnham, 94, died on December 26, 2017, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born on December 10, 1923, in Freedom, a daughter of Arthur and Beulah (Welch) Shorey.
Edith had been employed at the Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna and later employed as a handsewer for many years. Following retirement, she was an active volunteer for Meals for ME program in Newport and the Newport Area Share Program. She was a member of the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club, Pittsfield Women's Bowling League, and Newport Senior Citizens. Edith was an avid camper.
She is survived by a son, George Burnham, Jr. and his friend, Glenda Weymouth, who was like a daughter to Edith, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Maxine and husband, Keith Thompson, of Newport; a sister, Beverly Stankevitz, of Corinna; four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased by her husband, George Burnham, Sr. in 1991; as well as three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, with Pastor Tom Obey officiating.
