Duane's Story

Lincoln - Duane M. Aldrich, 85, passed away at home on August 27, 2017. The son of Charles (Slim) and Eunice Aldrich, he was born in Lincoln, ME, on August 13, 1932. He attended schools in Lincoln and graduated from Lee Academy, class of 1950, He married Charleen Lyons on December 22, 1950, and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage.
Duane's main employment was in construction, where he began as carpenter's helper and worked up to supervisor for Paul A. Lawrence Co. He and his wife enjoyed living in many states across the USA. During this time Duane had his private pilot license and his own airplane. Many trips for fun and for traveling home to Maine were taken by air in his little "Tail Dragger."
Duane was on the MSAD #30 School Board for a time, and also taught building trades at EMCC evenings for a time. In retirement Duane refinished furniture and made many beautiful sewing cabinets and baby cradles for his family. He took up donut making as a hobby and was called "The Donut Man" by volunteers at Roger's Farm in Orono. His most favorite of all pastimes was hunting and fishing with his sons and buddies. He enjoyed many moose hunts and fishing trips with them over the years.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Charleen Lyons Aldrich; and his six children and their spouses, Eleanor and Douglas King of Rockland, Duane and Rhonda Aldrich of Lee, Barbara and Randy Wilbur of Eastbrook, Michelle and Terry Worcester of Warner Robins, GA, Daniel and Trish Aldrich of Springfield and Hubert and Ginny Aldrich of Lee. Grandchildren include: Billie-Jo, Ginger, Jeremy, Charles, Michelle, Michael, Lisa, Deidre, Terry, Joshua, Chance, Patrick, Danielle, Mary, Joseph, Matthias, Hannah, Ruth, Lydia, Eric, Kylie, Aleshia and Justin. He has 37 great grandchildren and a great-grandson due in December. Duane is survived by two sisters, Muriel (George) Hamilton of NC and Gail Mackiewicz of CT and several nieces and nephews. Duane was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Brian Christopher Aldrich, in 1992; sisters, Juanita, Charlene, Roberta and Dora; a brother, Earl; a niece and two nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Mattawamkeag Baptist Church on Saturday, September 2, from 12-1 p.m. with memorial service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Steve McNally officiating. Donations in Duane's memory may be made to Mattawamkeag Baptist Church.
