Dr. Jeffrey's Story
ACAPULCO, MEXICO - Dr. Jeffrey Brooks, (Ph.D.) 61, formerly of Millinocket, Maine and Pullman, Washington, passed away on August 31 in Acapulco, Mexico of a heart attack. Jeff was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Winston and Jean Brooks.
He attended Stearns High School, where he was a member of the ski team and the golf team - two sports that he pursued for many years. Jeff graduated from the University of Maine Orono and eventually attended Washington State University, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Geology. Jeff's work as a geologist in the gold-mining field took him to Montana, Nevada, Mexico, and South America for long periods of time.
Jeff was previously married to Anne-Lise Dragoy and together they had two wonderful daughters, Alexandra and Camilla.
A self-admitted wine snob, Jeff was also a great cook. He never used a recipe, preferring instead to cook on the fly. He loved to cook for family and friends. The more the merrier was Jeff's approach.
Jeff was predeceased by his mother, Jean Brooks, of Meredith, New Hampshire. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Winston and Bette Brooks, of Anderson, South Carolina; his daughters Alexandra of Seattle, Washington and Camilla of Lexington, Kentucky; his sister and her husband, Christina and Michel Duvernay, of Westbrook, Maine; his fiancee, Itzel Leyva of Acapulco, Mexico, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
