Douglas's Story

Text size

Lincoln - Douglas Ivan King, 59, finally succumbed to the illness that had beset him for many years on February 11, 2017, at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Douglas was born in Lincoln, Maine, on April 29, 1957. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Arlean (Kennedy) King, four brothers Paul, Dalton, Dennis, and Dwaine King, and one sister, Permelia (Mickey) King.
He is survived by sisters and brothers, Ida Carmichael, Darrel King, George King, Dale Ruben King, Priscilla Richmond, Patricia Philbrook, Delbert King, Paula Webster, Pauline Hartwell, Perline McCafferty, Pamela Young, and Pennie Stewart.
Douglas is also survived by his close friend, Claude Skidgell. They were inseparable for many years. Claude has been a confidante as Douglas handled the many physical issues that he faced during his life.
Douglas and his sister, Pennie, shared a strong bond. The two of them tackled the many hospital stays and complications surrounding his fight with heart disease and a kidney disease brought on by Diabetes Insipidus. They treated each new issue like an obstacle, not a conclusion, and Douglas survived many times when others would not.
Douglas faced years of sickness, but did not let his disease define him. He loved to laugh. He loved to spend time with his family. He loved sports. He was always thrilled when his nephew, Mark McCafferty, would take him to Red Sox games (his favorite) or Maine Black Bear Hockey.
Douglas was also content living at Lakeview Terrace Assisted Living. He considered the other residents and staff as family. He was always glad to take a trip, but was more than happy to come back home.
Friends may call at The Full Gospel Tabernacle, 14 Fleming St., Lincoln, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at noon. Visiting hours will be Noon until 2 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following. Rev Tony Stewart will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, Douglas would like donations to be made to Yesterdays Children, INC. His youngest sister, Mickey, resided there for the last few years of her life. Donations may be left at Clay Funeral Home or mailed to Yesterdays Children, PO Box 829, Ellsworth, Maine 04605.
