- Dorothy H. Nason, 97, died on February 11, 2018, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born on March 11, 1920, in Winslow, a daughter of Howard and Bessie (Haynes) Hartley.
She graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1938, and trained as a hairdresser at Aroline Greenway Beauty Shop in Newport. She started her own beauty shop on Mill Street in Newport in 1944, and continued to do hair at her home on Grove Street for many years. She loved to knit, crochet, and read books with a boiling hot cup of tea. She married Harry E. Nason on October 18, 1941, and they both were members of the People's United Methodist Church in Newport. They wintered 24 years in Florida and summered at Piper Pond in Abbot.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Colson of Fuquay Varina, NC, and Brenda and Gregory Mrowka of Old Orchard Beach; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dot was predeceased by sisters, Hazel Clarke and Gladys Frost, and by brothers, Perley, Darrell, and Earl Hartley.
At her request, there will be graveside services only at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, in the spring.
