Bangor - Dorothy A. Hamm, 81, died suddenly of cancer on February 12, 2018, at home, surrounded by her children. She was born on April 20, 1936, in Portage, PA, the daughter of Frank and Doris (Sargent) Plummer.
Dotty graduated from John Bapst High School in 1953. She met Haddy "Phil" during her senior year and they married on June 11, 1956. Together they built their home in Bangor and settled for over 60 years. Dotty and Phil celebrated 59 years of marriage. Dotty worked for the University of Maine, Orono, as a food preparer until she retired. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Judes, and Association of Mary Immaculate. Dotty and Phil started the "Dorothy Day" Soup Kitchen, 1981 Bangor. Dotty was a grateful Al-Anon member for over 37 years. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and clamming, and the beauty of Winter Harbor with the ocean breeze. What we loved about Mom was her way of sharing love, forgiveness, generosity, honesty and hard work, her wittiness and humor, her spiritual being and charity.
Dotty was predeceased by her loving husband, Haddy "Honey Hamm". Surviving are her children, Philip Hamm of Bangor, Dawn (Hamm) Curtis and her husband, Ron, of New Hampshire, Mark Hamm and his wife, Midge, of Brewer, Christopher Hamm and his wife, Mary, of Bangor; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Emily Newton of Massachusetts; a brother, William Plummer of Nebraska; and many loving and special nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Funeral Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor. Spring interment will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. The family invites everyone to share conversation and refreshments in the Parish Hall following the service Saturday.
