Donna's Story

Sunset - Donna Daye (McDonald) Billings, 73, passed away October 18th, 2016, at her home in Sunset.
Growing up in a large, fun-loving family, she quickly claimed the nickname of "Scamp" for she was a little mischievous, in her own endearing and amusing way. She was the daughter of Ralph Warren McDonald, a man well known for his pranks and story-telling and his loving wife Dawn (Snowden) McDonald the spark and forever burning ember of the McDonald family.
Born December 3, 1942, her life was filled with supportive and unconditional love from her family that continues to span the generations. She leaves her beautiful sisters, Evelyn Siebert and Judith Greenlaw, caring brother David "Fudd" McDonald and joins her predeceased younger brother Ralph "Barr" McDonald. Her spirit lives on with daughters, Suzette Grindle and husband Peter, Sandra Shepard and husband Randy; granddaughters, Abigail Grindle and Morgan Shepard; grandsons, Sam Grindle and Ethan Shepard. She will be sadly missed by special friend Tenney Gavaza and the many family members and friends that knew her simply as "Grandma" or "Scampi."
Her life was filled with much happiness. She enjoyed the flock that migrated to her home to play ball in the field, grab an afternoon snack or just sit and talk a while. Scamp loved her birds, squirrels and four-legged friends that made their way to her home daily.
Most often, you could find her in the kitchen. Her pantry rivaled the baking isle at Shop n Save. An incredible cook, she was often asked to bake cookies, cakes and pies for various events. The much sought-after cream puffs were her trademark and a skill she passed on to her daughters. Kids came in droves to get her lavishly decorated sugar cookies at Halloween and Christmas.
An accomplished seamstress, never earning a dime from her talents, you could find her making beautiful costumes, quilts and crafts. There wasn't a prom dress or dance costume she wouldn't tackle and you could always count on Grandma for a quick hem or alteration.
She leaves us with many happy memories and those who had the pleasure of knowing her and loving her are truly blessed.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6th 2016, at the Sunset Congregational Church. A celebration of life will follow at Scamp's home on Sunset Cross Road. In lieu of flowers, please buy a birdfeeder and keep it full, adopt a pet from a shelter or plant a garden and share with your family.
