- Don passed away peacefully in Bangor, Maine, with his family by his side on February 5, 2018, after a brief illness. He was born in Manchester, NH, on September 27, 1925, to Donat L. and Marie-Louise (Beaudette) Boulanger, the seventh of nine children. Don graduated from Manchester West High School in late 1943 and immediately joined the US Army Air Corps. He later attended the University of New Hampshire.
He returned to the Manchester area and married Germaine Girard on June 21, 1947. During their 70+ years of marriage, they raised four children and made their home in the greater Manchester area and later in Burlington, VT. Don went on to have a career comprising of 37 years with New England Telephone. He retired to Spring Hill, Florida, in 1984, where he spent many hours performing volunteer work. In 2007, as Germaine's Alzheimer's grew steadily worse, the couple moved to Hampden, Maine, to live with their daughter Elaine and her family. Germaine passed away on February 11, 2018, six days after her husband's death.
Don enjoyed all sports, but his real passion was for baseball. He actively played in softball leagues in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Florida through his seventies. Throughout his life he was a long-suffering and passionate Boston Red Sox fan. He particularly enjoyed attending spring training games in Florida and Red Sox games at Fenway Park with family and friends.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Suzanne Boulanger; his four children, Elaine Chambers and husband, Alfred, Elise Dufour and husband, Craig, Richard Boulanger and wife, Nina, and Norman Boulanger and wife, Carol; ten grandchildren, Emily Chambers-Francis and husband, Ryan, Katie Chambers, Shannon Conley, Jonathan Conley, David Boulanger, Katie Fitch and husband, Abe, Adam Boulanger, Krista Boulanger, Jody Boulanger, and John Boulanger, as well as four great-grandchildren.
