FALMOUTH - Donald Brown Devoe, 95, of Falmouth, ME passed away peacefully on July 30, 2015 with family at his side. Don was born on September 11, 1919 in Bangor, ME to Frances Brown and Irving Woodward Devoe. Don's wife Muriel Elizabeth (Strout) Devoe predeceased him in 2002, after nearly 60 years of marriage. Don was predeceased by one sister, Jean (Devoe) Chapman.
Don earned his BA in Physics and his MA in Psychology, both from the University of Maine, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Rochester. He served 4 years during World War II in the Army Air Corps providing weather advisories to bomber crews flying missions in the European and Mediterranean theatres of war. Don was honorably discharged in 1946 and continued serving in the reserves, retiring on September 11, 1979 as full Colonel, USAF.
Don's professional career was in the field of human factors, including positions with Air Force Human Resources Research Center, Air Force Cambridge Research Center, Sperry Rand Research Center, Sylvania Electronic Systems Division, and the Department of Transportation. Don was the author or co-author of many publications focused on human factors and was a member of several academic and professional organizations.
Don was an avid photographer, artist, hiker, bird watcher, reader, trombonist, and perhaps above all, humorist. He loved to travel but loved being at home with friends and family even more.
Don leaves behind 4 children: Barbara Cary of Cumberland Center, ME, Judith Haggerty of Westminster, VT, James Devoe and his wife Maryanne Krajcik of Granby CT, and David Devoe and his wife Frances Devoe of Walhalla, SC. Don leaves 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family welcomes you to join them at a memorial service on Friday, August 14th at 12:00 noon at the Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth, Maine, with visitation hour prior to the service at 11:00 am. Burial will be Saturday, August 15th at 12:00 noon at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bangor, Maine, with military honors at graveside. Maple Grove Cemetery is at the corner of Pushaw Rd and Church Rd.
