Donald G. Desjardins, 76, died unexpectedly August 29, 2014 at Boston's Brigham & Women's Hospital. He was born June 27, 1938 in Old Town, a son of Ernest N. Sr. and Beatrice E. (Taylor) Desjardins.

Don was a 1955 graduate of Old Town High School and immediately enlisted in the National Guard and US Army. He retired after 31 years of dedicated service in Viet Nam, Japan, Hawaii, Korea, Ethiopia, and Denmark finishing his service of duty in Virginia then retiring to Las Vegas. Don received numerous citations and awards including a Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Ribbon with Device 1960. He was a trophy golfer and bowler, and avid fan of NASCAR and New England Sports teams. He enjoyed outings to Fenway and the Bangor Waterfront Pavilion. He volunteered many hours as a Maine Troop Greeter at Bangor National Airport, at the Veterans Home, Bangor, and at the American Folk Festival. He was a Legacy Life member of the VFW, and a life member of the BPOE (Elks), 40 year member of the USA WOA (Warrant Officer's Association) and the Moose Lodge. Family was important to Don, and he enjoyed visiting with his large family and close friends with cards, small gifts and frequent social visits. He enjoyed traveling, especially when he could visit family.

He is survived by three daughters, Donna Rocker and her husband, Tommy of Las Vegas, NV, Debra Evinger and her significant other, Scott King of Denton, TX, and Diane Ferron and her husband, Michael of Standish; a son, David Desjardins and his significant other, Florence Jewett of Hermon; five grandchildren, Joshua Hansen, Chad Evinger, Jared, Jessica, and James Desjardins; eight siblings, John Desjardins, Deanna Damboise and her husband, Bill, Susan MacDonald, Ernie Desjardins and his wife, Judy, Fran Lucas and her husband, Chuck, Michael Desjardins and his wife, Cheryl, Anne Wight and her husband, David, Tess Mairhuber and significant other, Carl "Buddy" Greene; the mother of his children, Carole Milheron; many, many nieces and nephews; cousins; and lifelong friends including close friend and reliable neighbor, Kathy Hanson. Don was predeceased by his parents and a grandson, Christopher Evinger.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept 5, 2014 at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service with military honors will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
