- Dean R. O'Roak, 87, of Pownal, passed away at his home on Friday, October 6, 2017 with his daughters and family by his side. He was born in Sherman, Maine, on June 7, 1930 the son of Burleigh and Mattie O'Roak. He graduated from Sherman High School, after high school he attended a meat cutting school in Massachusetts and worked in this field for a few years before going to work at the Sherman School System as a custodian. He took great pride in his family, his home and his work. Teachers and students alike enjoyed his boyish sense of humor.
Dean had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He built a lot of sports camps and sap camps. In his later years he fed any wild creature that crossed his path. He was a true humanitarian, generous in his time helping people. He will be missed by all those who loved him.
Dean was predeceased by his parents; his wife Jackie; two brothers, Bill O'Roak and Clair O'Roak, and two sisters, Corrine Bragdon and Verda Mitchell.
He leaves behind two daughters, Ellen O'Roak and Debbie Osgood and her husband Dan both of Pownal; his much loved grandchildren, Moksha and Joel Osgood. He is also survived by his brother, Walton O'Roak of Bangor and a sister, Dorothy McLellan of Sherman; and he will be missed by many nieces and nephews who he loved and teased throughout their lives.
Dean desired no memorial service, only that his remains to be quietly placed in the ground by his daughters and their family.
