- David L. Leach, 62, of Sarasota, Florida, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Dave inspired friends and family with his courage and faith all along the way. Dave was a dedicated and loving husband, father, stepfather, brother, son, friend and faithful Christian.
Born in Bellfonte, PA, on October 29, 1954, Dave spent his early years in State College, PA, and moved to Maine with his family when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Orono High School in 1972 and received his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine in 1976. His professional accomplishments were many. His work eventually led him to Sarasota, FL in 2004, where he met his loving wife Donna, whom he married on June 11, 2005, and an incredible community of friends. He held positions as Director of Project Management and Engineering at Longboat Key Club and Resort, and most recently as a Construction Consultant with Ajax Consulting Services in collaboration with dear friend and colleague, Karel Steiner.
Dave was a member of Remnant Church of Sarasota and also maintained deep connections to South Shore Community Church where he served as a youth leader.
Dave loved spending his time with family, friends and church.
Dave leaves behind many loyal friends, colleagues, and family who love and will miss him dearly (wife Donna Leach and stepdaughter Codi Auten of Sarasota, FL; parents Roger and Thela Leach of Sarasota, FL; daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter Kate, Tim and Norah Bathras of South Portland, ME; daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons, Joanna, Steve, Carter and Adam Larson, of Charlotte, NC; sister and brother-in-law Jan and Mike Snow of Blue Hill, ME; brother and sister-in-law Rod and Edie Leach of Bangor, ME; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Mark Holly of Needham, MA; brother and sister-in-law Scott and Susan Leach of Bangor, ME; and many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws).
Dave's family would like to express their gratitude for the love, support and prayers of many during this time.
A Memorial Service will be held at South Shore Community Church, 1899 South Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota, FL on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave's memory to Team Tony Cancer Foundation in Sarasota or The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Cancer Center in Durham, North Carolina.
