Charles's Story

Text size

Bradley - It is with great sadness that the family of 'Charlie' share the news of his peaceful passing early on Friday morning, February 9, 2018, at the age of 79. Charlie was born on April 18, 1938, son of the late Clarence and Adelaide (Watson) Wilcox and younger brother of the late Lindsay Wilcox and Geneva (Wilcox) Ehnes.
Charlie lived his entire life on Boynton Street in Bradley. He married his grade school sweetheart, Audrey, to whom he was married for 59 years. Charlie was well known for his strong work ethic and honest character. He began working with his father in the logging business and driving a pulp truck at the age of 15. He later formed his own business as a logging contractor, which he ran for over 40 years. As a young father, Charlie enjoyed coaching his sons' Little League and Pony League teams and had many fond memories of and stories to tell about each of the players. Charlie and Audrey purchased a camp on Chemo Pond in 1964, where they enjoyed spending summers along with the rest of the Bradley clan, and this camp still remains in the family today.
After retirement, he developed the Ten Road subdivision in Bradley where, later in life, he and Audrey would take daily rides and, as a result, they assumed the nickname "The Ten Road Patrol." Charlie also enjoyed spending time in Florida, playing golf, riding his ATV, following New England sports teams, and visiting with his close friends Bobby Hall and Lawrence Jackson.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Audrey; their two sons, Bruce and Brian and his wife, Paula; two granddaughters, Lauren Wilcox and Erin DeGrasse and her husband, Brian DeGrasse; and a very special great-grandson and namesake, Charlie DeGrasse. In addition to his parents and siblings, Charlie was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Lee Ann (Lloyd) Wilcox and in-laws, Walter and Margaret Brooks.
Per the family's wishes, there will be no services at this time, and a future burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bradley. In honor of Charlie's memory, the family asks that you share acts of kindness with others.
