BANGOR - Catherine H. Goodnoh, 97, died peacefully at a local health care facility on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015. Born Catherine May Hinckley on Nov. 9, 1917, she was the daughter of Henry P. Hinckley and May F. Burr.
Kay grew up on Old County Road in Hampden, attended Hampden Academy and took a semester at UMO. Her parents had a camp on Holbrook Pond in Holden where she loved to canoe and fish in the summer. She worked for the telephone company in Bangor until her marriage to Clifford A. Goodnoh on November 4, 1967. They lived in Massachusetts for a few years, then returned to Maine so she could care for her mother and father until their deaths, and then for her husband who died in 1973. After that she worked for Union Trust Company in Ellsworth for nine years until her retirement in 1982. Kay enjoyed her retirement years traveling to England and Scotland, summering in Prince Edward Island and spending part of the winters in Florida. She volunteered as a USO hostess at Dow Airfield during WWII, and at St. Joseph Hospital in later years. She loved visiting Schoodic Point at Acadia National Park, gardening, taking walks, and caring for her pets.
Kay will be missed by her stepdaughters Ruth Canney of Ohio and Dollie Williams of South Carolina, friends Rose Fortin of Lisbon, Charlie and Kathy Bryant of Bangor, Steve and Melanie Egland of Brewer, and her friends at Calvary Baptist Church of Brewer. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by a younger brother, Robert.
