Carol's Story

JEFFERSON - Carol Lena Harris, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 at home with her loving husband by her side and her three daughters in her heart. She was born in Charleston, ME on May 27, 1945, the youngest daughter of Ralph and Viola (Russell) Weymouth Sr.

Carol grew up on her family's farm where learning, hard work and values occurred daily. These she shared with her children. Carol attended local schools including the Higgins Classical Institute. On Oct 14, 1961, Carol married David Harris, the love of her life. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to East Winthrop where they began their family. She stayed home with her three girls until the early 70's when she joined the work force. During that time in her life she realized her love for continual learning, and took classes, eventually earning her high school diploma from Winthrop High School. Carol worked many jobs throughout the years, always learning a new trade each and every time. She was a school bus driver for the town of Winthrop, a loan officer for Bank of Maine and the manager for the State House cafeteria. Carol worked at Hannaford, Progressive Dist., Longfellow's Greenhouse, Country Kitchen, Seabrook and Maine Yankee Power Plants just to name a few. She also had a very special job of traveling throughout the state delivering blood and medications to those in urgent need, realizing later in her illness how vital that job is. Carol loved spending time outdoors, not letting a day go by without some sort of project outside or in. Gardening was a favorite. Brook fishing and spending time near the ocean were things she was always up for. Carol was an avid camper and would jump at the opportunity to load up the camper and go. She always rose well before the sun to start the campfire and coffee. Carol and David would often travel throughout the state and beyond to camp where Dave was working. Carol was excellent at any game of cards. A game of cribbage with Dave was always welcome; their last game together ending in a tie. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting making mittens for all her children and their children. She will be missed dearly.

She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Weymouth Sr. and his wife, Maralyn. Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, David Harris of Jefferson, ME; daughters, Diane Bond of Winthrop, ME, Donna Croxford of Portland, ME, Lynn Tucker and her husband, Thad of Scarborough, ME; grandchildren: Nickalaus Mills, Rodney Tucker, Damien Croxford, Asha Tucker, Jesse Tucker; great-grandchildren: Blair Mills, Skyler Tucker; brother, Donald Weymouth and his wife, Kenene of Greenfield, Indiana, Ralph Weymouth Jr. and his wife, Kenlyn of Charleston, ME; sisters, Marion Townsend and her husband, Jerry of Bangor, ME, Catherine Crawford of Carrollton, GA, Alice McClintock of Codyville, ME.
