MARSHFIELD - Carl E. Heilsberg passed away July 14, 2015 the way he lived his life, under his own terms. He was born Jan. 1, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Edward and Frances Heilsberg.
While attending American University in Washington, D.C. he met and married Anita Haskell. They moved to her home state of Maine after Carl completed his stint in the navy in 1945. They raised three daughters, Carol, Janette and Lyneta. Carl became an educator earning his master's degree from Orono. He continued his career as superintendent of S.A.D. 32 and finished with the New Sweden school district in 1977. Carl and Anita then moved to Marshfield where they built their "dream" home. Carl became very involved in the formation of the fresh pack blueberry industry in Washington County. After 64 years of marriage Anita passed away in 2008 but Carl continued to live in and maintain the home. In 2010 he reconnected with and married his college sweetheart, Bernice Mickelson. She passed away in November of 2012.
Carl is survived by his three daughters, two nephews and a number of grandchildren. Due to his love of bird hunting a graveside service will be held sometime in October.
