C. Robert's Story
- C. Robert 'Bob' Johnson, 82, went to meet his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 28, 1936, in Boston, MA, the son of Axel Hjelmar and Marie (Jorgensen) Johnson.
After his immigrant parents made the move from Boston to Bucksport, Bob attended Bucksport schools, graduating in 1954. So did Helen Conners, his next door neighbor whom he married on June 19, 1955. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Chilton where he was a radio operator. He also served in the Ceremonial Guard. After his service to the Navy, Bob studied electronics at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. After working in the aeronautics industry in the Boston area Bob was excited to move back home and begin his career as an electrician at St. Regis Paper Mill in Bucksport. After a career ending in jury in his early 30's, Bob attended and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts and Minor in Math. He taught at the Evangel Baptist Academy in Bucksport for 17 years.
In retirement, Bob taught Driver's Education, drove tour buses, Bangor city bus and the Island Explorer bus in Bar Harbor. One of his lifelong interests was flying and he obtained his pilot's license later in life. Bob was a Ham Radio operator, loved electronics, and was known as the tech and gadget guy. By the Grace of God, Bob put his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a young adult. He enjoyed the blessings of salvation throughout his life. He was a member of the Bucksport Bible Church, served there faithfully throughout his life and loved his church family. Bob was lovingly known as "Papa" to his eleven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and prayed for daily.
Bob is survived by his wife Helen of 62 years of Bucksport, two children, Kerry Lee Trumble and her husband, Michael, of Winchester, VA, and Dana Johnson and his wife, Renee, of Ipswich, MA, eleven grandchildren, and one sister, Betty Coubert of Bucksport, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, John Johnson.
