Bucksport - Burnham William Gaff Sr. left his loving family to go be with his lord on Dec. 28, 2017, while waiting for heart surgery at Mass General Hospital. Burnie was born on Dec. 11, 1947, to Arthur and Bernice Gaff in Chelsea, Mass.
Burnie grew up in Chelsea with fond memories of the nuns that taught at St. Rose Catholic School, he later was a proud member of the Chelsea Police dept., until a visit to Bucksport changed his life. This is where he met the love of his life Sharon Allison, he would say that it was love at first site and they were still on their honeymoon after 46 years. Together they raised two beautiful sons.
In the early years Burnie worked as a steel fabricator building bridges. Then he went to work for the Town of Bucksport as transfer station and recycling center manager for 26 years, where he grew beautiful flowers that he gave to every child that came to the facility. Long after retirement, adults would approach him and tell him that they still remembered when he used to give them flowers, which gave him such joy.
In his retirement he volunteered his time at Gaftek where he became the dad at the office, loving the time he spent with all that worked there. He was a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus - Burnie was a people person who greeted everyone with a smile and a hug he will be sadly missed.
He was predeceased by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Ross and Anita Allison; sister, Lois Rossetti; brothers, Vincent and Michael Gaff; sisters-in-law, Anita Gaff and Marilyn Carter, Carole Warren; brothers-in-law, Phil Warren and Gilbert Allison; and special cousin, Ollie Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon; sons, Burnie Jr., his wife, Amy, and their children, Lukas and Alexis; son, Eric, his wife, Larrisa, and their children, Morgan and Kelsea, who all affectionately called him Ampy. They were his world. Also, two daughters, Lisa Hicks and grandson, Thurman Hicks, from Franklin, NH, Tami Morgan from Sweet Home, OR, her husband, Mike, and grandchildren, Barbara, Philip, and Timothy, and two great-grandchildren, brother Bob Gaff of Bucksport, sister, Donna Whitney and husband, Tom, of Belfast, brothers-in-law, Steven Allison and wife, Kathy, and Paul Carter of Bucksport, and cousins, Bob and Cathy Buchanan from Tantallon, Nova Scotia, whom he thought of as a brother, his Spanish Daughter Ana Eusa from Madrid, Spain, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his favorite girl Ladybug who was his constant companion.
