Brady's Story

Text size

Pittsfield - Brady P. Scott, 84, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at his home in Pittsfield with family by his side. He was born on November 21, 1931, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Oscar E. Scott and Isabelle M. (Beck) Scott. He was educated in PA and graduated from Somerset Academy in Athens, ME in 1949. Brady married Norma C. (Hutchinson) Scott on December 31, 1949, and built their home on Sibley Pond in Pittsfield in 1956.
Brady worked as a hand stitcher at Norwalk Shoes, Northeast Shoes and Dexter shoes from 1949 to 1972. He was a hard worker and was proud of the lessons he taught his children about prioritizing, loving your family, and working hard. In 1973 Brady began work in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. He worked as a ranger at Churchill Dam, Chamerlain Lake, and Eagle Lake from 1973 to 1992 with his wife by his side. Brady and Norma loved their time in the Allagash and the many friends they made along the way. His sense of humor, contagious laugh, sharp memory, and generous spirit made him completely unforgettable. Brady had a positive impact on those he came into contact with and many people looked forward to visiting the Allagash year after year thanks to the memories made with Brady and Norma.
Brady was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping with his wife, sons, grandsons, and friends. He could tell stories for hours about his time in the Northern Maine woods and you'd never hear the same one twice. In addition to building a home, a camp, and many buildings while working as a ranger, Brady liked to work with his hands building furniture and crafts with wood. Family members were blessed with gifts of beautiful shelves, chairs and birdhouses. He loved having his family at his home on Sibley Pond where they would enjoy swimming, boating, ice skating, fishing, waterskiing, barbequing, and visiting. He especially loved babies and being the first to feed them ice cream when their parents weren't looking. Brady and Norma enjoyed travelling to Alaska, Florida, and Canada and especially loved visiting the Maine Coast in the summer months where they could be found with a pail and shovel clamming for their dinner.
Brady was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Norma (2013), daughter Wendy Macdonald (2014), as well as sisters Pat MacDonald (1995), Nancy Cepuch (2013) and Ann McElman (2016). He is survived by his daughter Emily Scott (husband Jim Love) of Pittsfield, son-in-law Kevin Macdonald of Belgrade Lakes, sons Michael Scott and Larry Scott (wife Marjorie), both of Athens, sisters Mary Kay Denbow of Salome, AZ and Sally Owen of Brunswick, as well as 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Maine General Hospice and Dr. K. Sitterly for their care.
In keeping Brady's wishes, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. Anyone wishing to honor Brady should take a family member fishing.
