MILLINOCKET - Betty Jane Brown Libby, 93, went home to heaven Jan 24, 2015 at her Katahdin Healthcare Home. Betty was born April 20, 1921 in Levant, Maine, the youngest of three born to Frank Alby and Edna (Ferren) Brown.

Betty graduated from East Corinth Academy as an active student, excelling in basketball as the center of the 1936 team. During that time she met the love of her life, Philip K Libby. They married at the Corinna Farm in 1940, happily together 60 years until his passing in 2001. They enjoyed raising three children in Millinocket. Betty volunteered for many church and community activities. In 1952 she became Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, OES #120, holding various offices through many years. These included her organist skills for meetings and her leadership in the Rainbow girls. Betty was also an active member at Millinocket Baptist Church since 1940. Some of her proud accomplishments included being the Sunday School Superintendent for 16 years, holding the Presidential Office in the Missionary Group and Pianist for evening service. Betty enjoyed playing her organ and piano at home, many trips with family, and bird watching; a skill she refined as official Loon counter for Maine Audubon Society. Camp at South Twin Lake provided enjoyment for Betty; swimming, boating, birding, sunsets and especially family gatherings.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, husband Philip, brothers Carl and wife Nellie Brown, Floyd and wife Ethel Brown. She is survived by her children, Dennis and wife Wendy Libby, Nancy Libby Fisher, and Laura (Libby) and husband Dana Jones; grandchildren Cynthia Brault, Ann Levielle, Karen Gass, Gregory Fisher, Julie Jones and Stephen Jones; great-grandchildren Kayla and Ryan, Andrew and Joshua, Kimberly and Philip. She will be fondly remembered by numerous special nieces and nephews including Linda Brown Clark, Mary Lou and Kevin Libby and Lois and Bill Libby.

Special thanks to staff at Katahdin Healthcare for their caring and compassionate services since 2011.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at 11am until the time of service at 1pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket. A luncheon will follow the service. Spring burial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O.
