Beatrice's Story

BANGOR - Beatrice "Bea" (Rushton) Trafton, 94, passed peacefully Thursday morning, December 25, 2014. She was the wife of the late Paul Trafton for almost 75 years. They were married on September 20, 1939.

Bea was born on May 9, 1920 in McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Elijah and Gertrude (Adams) Rushton. Bea was employed for many years with Outdoor Sports a manufacturer of archery equipment, then with Bristol Board of Education as a "chef" at Ellen P. Hubbell school. She volunteered for the Bristol Hospital Auxiliary working in the hospital store and the information desk for 40 years. Bea and Paul also enjoyed square dancing Saturday nights during the '60's and 70's.

She was a faithful fan of the Boston Red Sox, UConn Women's Basketball and was a season ticket holder for 25 years for the New England/Hartford Whalers. Bea was also a member of what was called the "91 Club" for travelling up Route 91 to Springfield, MA for the hockey games after the collapse of the Hartford Civic Center in 1978. For many years, she also enjoyed singing in the Asbury United Methodist Church choir, Sunday School Superintendent and director of the Christmas Pageant for many years. Bea and Paul were members of Asbury United Methodist Church, Forestville for many years.

She leaves her daughters, Elisabeth Bartlett of Mesa, AZ, Paula Felt (Gary) of Colchester, Lori Trafton of Bristol; grandchildren Robin Bartlett Adair (Rick) of Gilbert, AZ, Amy Bartlett Kettelhut (Randy) of Mesa, AZ and Jesse Trafton of Bristol; great grandchildren Alan Adair of Gilbert AZ and Randy C. Kettelhut of Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews in New York, Massachusetts, Maine and Rhode Island. Besides her parents, and husband she was predeceased by a daughter Linda D. Trafton of Lambert Lake, ME; brother William Rushton of McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada, and sister Cora Wright of Lambert Lake, Maine and a son-in-law Robert Bartlett of Mesa, AZ.

An hour of visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Laura Galbraith, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
