Barbara Frances Sprague died on July 10, 2016. She was born in Framingham, Mass. on September 30, 1933 to Donald and Viola (Webb) Smith. Barbara was married to Julian Kenney Sprague, who died in 2002, and is survived by their four children: Peter K. Sprague and his wife Teresa, Jeanne V. Benedict and her husband Jeffery, Jon A. Sprague and his wife Patty, and Andrew M. Sprague and his wife Jenn. She is also survived by her sister Donna Smith, many nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends including her dear friend Kaye Lister, four precious granddaughters: Alicia Sprague, Cassie Gross, Julie Benedict, and Julianna Sprague, and three young men she thought of as her grandsons: Ryley Beal, Rowan Perrin, and Christopher Perry.

Barbara graduated from the Steuben High School and attended the Provincial Teachers College in Truro, Nova Scotia (where her Grandmother Webb had attended). She taught in Truro for several years before returning to Maine, where she attended the Washington State Teachers College in Machias. Barbara loved teaching in Nova Scotia and in Riverview, New Brunswick, where she and her family lived for 14 years before moving back to Maine.

A dedicated Christian from an early age, Barbara attended church wherever she lived, including the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Moncton, New Brunswick, where she was active in the church and the choir. In her last years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryfield, Maine and loved visits from Pastor Max and Debbie!

During her last years, she resided at the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland Maine where, despite her physical handicaps, she lived a full and active life. The family would like to thank Brewer Rehab for their compassionate care during the last few weeks of Barbaras life. A celebration of Barbaras life will be held on her birthday - September 30th (details will be made available at a later date). In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 515, Cherryfield, ME 04622, or to the Henry D. Moore Library, P. O. Box 127, Steuben, ME 04680
