Old Town - Barbara L. Marcho, 88, died October 31, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 19, 1929, in Etna, a daughter of Woodrow and Myrtle (Tinker) Brown.
Barbara was a hardworking woman having assisted her husband in the Texaco Garage in the 1950s and early 60s, when they established Marcho Riding Stables in Orono, they operated a chicken farm in Etna for several years before returning to Old Town in 1972 and opened Wind Swept Stables and they also raised Appaloosas. She was also employed as a cook at Orono Nursing Home. Barbara found great joy in life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially supporting them on their musical pursuits. She enjoyed her flower beds and drawing. She will be fondly remembered for her Saturday night baked bean suppers.
She is survived by son, Arthur Marcho and his wife, Kathleen, of Old Town; three grandchildren, Trevor Marcho and his wife, Lynn, of Columbus, OH, Jillian Woodbury and her husband, Jeff, of Old Town and Joshua Marcho and his wife, Melissa, of Springvale; 4 great-grandchildren, Nora and Clayton Woodbury, and Alec and Paisley Marcho; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Brown of Bucksport and Geri Brown of Lebanon, NH; special friends, Mary Dall, Beverly and Larry Beal, and Colleen Wilcox; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Norman G. Marcho, in 2000; a son, Norman W. Marcho, in 1977; sister, Alyce Higgins; brothers, Clifford, Wesley, Paul, Floyd and Terry Brown; aunt and uncle, Henry and Gladys Kimball; and mother-in-law, Kathleen Bradbury.
Friends may call 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Town High School Music Program, 203 Stillwater Ave., Old Town, ME 04468.
