Barbara Ann Grass
April 07, 1944 - November 06, 2018
Barbara was born in Danforth, Maine, on April 7, 1944, to Ralph Waldo Ryder and Eva Pearl (Stoddard) Ryder. She went to school in Danforth, then went on to get her GED and then took a CNA course. She worked at Bernard's Nursing home in Calais, Maine for several years then went to work at Daggett's Store and Irving in Topsfield, Maine, then finished out her working career at Creative Apparel in Indian Township.
She loved spending time with family and friends. In her later years, she formed a special friendship with Melissa Thompson from Lambert Lake. Barbara enjoyed spending time with Missy and her family. Missy was also a huge help to the family by taking care of Barbara at home before she went on to the nursing home. The family is truly grateful for her kindness.
Barbara was also very fond of her sister, Helen, from Connecticut. She would get really excited when Helen was coming to visit and remained excited about the visit she had with her after she returned home. Helen called on a regular basis and Barbara looked forward to those calls.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Gilbert Grass, of Lambert Lake; her son, Dwayne Grass and his wife, Heather Grass, of Eddington; son, Arthur Hamel of Greenbush; son, David Hamel of Milford; sister, Helen Ryder of Southington, Connecticut; grandchildren, Khloe and Jaxson Grass of Eddington, Brian Hamel, Megan Hamel, Kouri Hamel, and Edmund Hamel. Barbara also had many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews that she was fond of. She was predeceased by her mother, Eva (Stoddard) Ryder; father, Ralph Ryder; sisters, Jennie (Melanson) Landry, Muriel Melanson, Gloria (Ryder) MacDonald; brothers, Leroy Melanson, Joseph Melanson, Noah Melanson, Caryle "Alphie" Melanson, Robert Melanson, and William Ryder; father-in-law, Verdie "Bud" Grass; mother-in-law, Alice Grass; sister-in-law, Shelia Cogswell; and brother-in-law, Carlton Monk.
