Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield - Arthur D. "Don" Pendleton, MD, 88, husband of the late Patricia M. (Zwicker) Pendleton, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born August 22, 1930, in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, the second son of Raymond Arthur and Consuelo (MacLennan) Pendleton.
His family moved to New Brunswick in 1936. After attending first grade in Upper Gagetown, New Brunswick, his family moved to Minto, New Brunswick, where he graduated from Minto/Newcastle Consolidated School as class valedictorian in 1946. After completing his pre-medical education at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, (1947-1951), "Don" entered Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating with his MD in 1956. Dr. Pendleton's first medical practice was in Stanley, New Brunswick (1956-1959). He received further training in Montreal, Quebec, to practice anesthesia. In 1959, Don settled in Fort Fairfield, where he practiced medicine until his retirement in 1996. In addition to family medicine, he also practiced obstetrics, anesthesia, provided E.R. coverage, made numerous house calls, and worked two mornings a week at the newly formed Veteran's Clinic at Cary Hospital, Caribou. Throughout his years in practice Don was a member of the AMA, Maine Medical Society, the Aroostook Medical Society, where he served one year as president. Don was also a member of the Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, serving as director for several years. Don was married to Patricia Mae Zwicker on May 21, 1960, and was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield. Don spent his leisure time listening to music, cooking, gardening, traveling and entertaining his family, friends and colleges. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his wife, Patricia on October 15, 2004; one brother, Raymond "Mac" Pendleton; and one granddaughter, Mallory Grace Langner.
He is survived by one brother, Daniel R. Pendleton of Sudbury, Ontario; three daughters, Heather Rogers and her husband, Shawn, of Fort Fairfield, Kiersten McKenney and her husband, John Byrnes of Brattleboro, VT, Tricia Langner and her husband, Rob of Fort Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Kelsey Towle of Blaine, Shannon Rossignol and her husband, Jarryd of Billings, MT, Ian Towle, stationed at Yakota AFB, Japan, Colin McKenney of Boston, MA, Malcolm Langner, Colby Langner, and Olivia Langner, all of Fort Fairfield; one great-grandchild, Caspian Rossignol of Billings, MT; and several nieces and nephews.
The Pendleton family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Leisure Village, Seniors/Domestics Home Care, and also to Victoria Grover, PA for their excellent care.
Friends may call Friday, January 4, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 170 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the church parish hall immediately after the service. Spring interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.

I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of visits to Fortfairlield with your family. Dad talked about visiting your father last Fall but unfortunately the trip never materialized. Dad spoke of your father often, always fondly.
