Arlene's Story

AUGUSTA AND ORONO - Arlene F. Braley passed away on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at Orono Commons/Genesis Healthcare after an extended period of declining health.

She was born in Augusta on January 25, 1920 to Blanche Lowe Frawley and Michael A. Frawley.

Arlene Frawley Braley graduated from Cony High School, class of 1938. She enjoyed attending her class reunions in the summer. She received additional training at Gates Business School in Augusta. Arlene worked in various clerical and accounting jobs over the years at Erskine Academy, Wilton Academy and in doctors' offices. In 1967 she joined her husband overseas and worked in the financial division of the Department of Defense on military bases in Portugal and Germany. Arlene and her husband retired back to Augusta and their family home on Murray Street. Arlene loved being outdoors working in her gardens and was passionate about flowers. She had a keen eye for beauty in nature, art and material objects. She collected many unique items in her travels overseas. She enjoyed photographing flowers and scenery. In younger years, Arlene was active in the Cecilia Club until its demise, as well as NARFE, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. She attended services at Penney Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta and was remembered many years by the Penney Watchcare Committee.

In 2010 she became a resident at Dirigo Pines in Orono to be near her daughter.

Her husband of 42 years Richard D. Braley passed away in 1984. She was also predeceased by her brother "Joe" Michael Joseph Frawley and her son- in -law Charles J. O'Leary.

Her daughter Pamela Braley O'Leary of Myrtle Beach, SC survives her. She is also survived by grandchildren Ann O'Leary and husband Goodwin Liu, Katie Ouellette and husband Ronnie, Alicia O'Leary and Meagan O'Leary and great grandchildren Violet and Emmett O'Leary-Liu.

The family suggests contributions to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta or the Animal Orphanage 10 Airport Road Old Town or the Penney Memorial United Baptist Church.

A committal services will take place in the chapel at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on the Mount Vernon Road on Friday October 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Old cemetery on Civic Center Drive.
