- Alton Maurice Thompson, 83, was born in Howland, Maine, on June 7, 1934, the son of Maurice and Glenys (Myrick) Thompson of Lowell, Maine. He passed away quietly in his sleep surrounded by family on January 20, 2018, in Ketchikan, Alaska.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked over 30 years at the Great Northern Paper Mill in East Millinocket, Maine. He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Lee) Thompson of 66 years; his brother, Timothy and his wife, Sherran Thompson; five children and their spouses, Alton E, and Norma Thompson, of Ketchikan, Alaska; Carl W. and Lisa Thompson of Ketchikan, Alaska; Quie A. (Thompson) and Bill Emery of Lee, Maine; Christopher M. of Ketchikan, Alaska; Paul R. and Mary Thompson of Soldotna, Alaska; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and predeceased by his grandson, Sgt Blair William Emery, who gave his life in service to his country. At his wish there will be a graveside service in the spring in East Winn, Maine.
