Augusta and Plymouth
- Allen Manzer Turner, 88, died on December 11, 2017, after a long illness. He was born on November 21, 1929, in Corinna, a son of Manzer and Rachel (Tibbetts) Turner. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1948. Allen married Dorothy Austin from Pittsfield on December 22, 1951.
He worked at the U. S. Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Silver Springs, Maryland. After returning to Maine, he worked for Hannaford Brothers for many years and retired from the Maine State Department of Agriculture in Augusta in 1998. He was a charter member of the former Corinna Lions Club and was a member of the Corinna United Methodist Church and the South Street United Methodist Church in Gorham. Allen and Dot thoroughly enjoyed many years at their summer cottage on Gray Pond in Plymouth.
Allen is survived by his daughter-in-law, Cyndi Turner, and a special family friend, Joan Burke; as well as many dear friends, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife on June 27, 2017; their son, Gary, on April 7, 2016; and his five sisters, Marie Birckhead, Virginia Wintle, Ruth Dunham, Clara "Kelly" Ready, and Eleanor Weeks.
Spring committal services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
