Alice's Story

Mapleton - Alice G. (Higgins) Glidden, 86, passed from this life and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. She was born on October 15, 1930, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the oldest child of Stacey E. and Mary B. (Cowett) Higgins.
She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1949, and immediately began a career in banking that continued until 1962. Alice married Lowell Glidden on June 15, 1957, and together the two devoted a lifetime of service to one another, their family and their church.
A life-long member of the Full Gospel Assembly of Presque Isle, Alice employed her financial management skills for almost four decades as assistant treasurer and, later, as treasurer. Her investment went well beyond her time and talent, extending to her earthly treasure as well; she understood that all she owned belonged to God and faithfully supported His work at every opportunity. She will be long-remembered as a fine example of commitment, consistency, and Christian living.
Alice loved tending flowers, growing a garden, preserving food and cooking, always having something to share with others; her Christmas cooking was renowned. In the many roles she played, including wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, financial manager and encourager, she always put others first; her greatest life aspiration was fulfilled when grandchildren were added to her family.
She is survived by her husband, Lowell, of Mapleton; son Stephen Glidden, his wife, Denise, and their daughters Brianna and Moriah of Midlothian, Virginia; son Stacey Glidden, his wife, Wendy, and their sons Clark and Seth, of South Hamilton, Massachusetts. She also is survived by her sister, Colleen Stevens of Mapleton, and brother Roger Higgins, and his wife, Leona, of Cottonwood, California.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Marie Keough and Theresa Lovely.
The family expresses grateful thanks to the capable and caring staff at the Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center, where Alice resided and received exceptional care for the past two years due to complications related to Parkinson's disease.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where calling hours will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 7 to 9 p.m. Alice's life will be celebrated during a memorial service at the Full Gospel Assembly, 7 Dudley Street, Presque Isle, on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. Spring interment will be at Fairmont Cemetery.
