Bangor - Al died peacefully of natural causes with his eight children surrounding him by his bedside at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Albert was born to Mary R. Barnes and Albert R. Messer in Bangor, Maine. Upon leaving Houlton High School he entered the US Army. He married Marjorie E. Lynch on August 31, 1957. He was a pharmaceutical representative for A.H.Robbins and Pfizer companies for 35 years. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid sports fan following his children and grandchildren's sporting events for decades. He enjoyed the UCONN Women's Basketball Team, Washington Redskins, and Boston Celtics. He loved hunting, the beach and Reggae music. Spending time with family brought him much joy.
He is survived by his four sons, Mark of Kennebunkport and wife Beth, Michael of Portland, Matthew of Porter, Marty of Rockport and wife Meredith, and his four daughters, Meg Philippon of Glenburn and husband Pat, Marie Webb of Stetson and husband Peter, Maureen El-Hajj of Rockland and Malerie Messer of Holden, his 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and brothers Raymond Messer and Greg Ricker. He was predeceased by his mother, father, wife and sister Ruthie.
A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Hampden on January 5 at 1 p.m. Refreshments and fellowship will follow at the church.
