Adrina's Story

Caribou - Adrina E. McElwain, 91, passed away on March 8, 2017, at Caribou. Adrina was born on September 6, 1925, in Van Buren, the daughter of Eddie and Alberta Roy.
She married Ralph McElwain on June 10, 1948, and started her life as a farmer's wife spending many hours working with him on the farm, proudly operating tractors and helping to make business decisions. Adrina spent most of her professional life working in banking, primarily employed by the Aroostook Trust Company as a bank teller. She eventually became a loan officer and a bank treasurer. Many locals still comment on the financial start they received from her.
Adrina thoroughly enjoyed many years square and round dancing with Ralph and all their wonderful friends - learning new steps, sharing lots of laughs, and taking trips together. She used her farming talents to help produce many vegetables and in later years dedicated her green thumb to raising flowers and turning them into beautiful "country bouquets". Adrina was also a talented seamstress and made beautiful quilts for many members of the family. She and Ralph believed in exercise and being active. In addition to dancing, she enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, bowling, and golfing.
An active member of the community, Adrina belonged to the Red Hat Ladies, the Aroostook County Homemakers Extension, the Caribou Country Club Women's League, the ACAP Board of Directors, and was a volunteer at the Caribou Office of Senator Susan Collins. She was a faithful communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Limestone.
She is survived by her brother Russell Roy and wife Jackie; sister-in-law Edmay Roy; daughter Marjorie Chandler and husband Bob of Topsfield; daughter Elizabeth Jamison and husband Gregory of Holden; son, Frank McElwain and wife Joan of Caribou; grandchildren Bob Chandler; Bart Chandler and wife Jaime; Diana Dionne and husband Jason; Lauren McElwain; Spencer McElwain and wife Kate. She will also be missed by her precious great grandchildren Abigail, Alexys, Abel, and Calvin.
In addition to her parents, Adrina was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 1999, and her brothers Alyre and Reno Roy.
Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Kinsey, officiating.
