Adeline Marie's Story
Orland and Houlton
- Adeline Marie Porter, 93, died on Monday, June 11, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor. She was born on April 10, 1925, in Houlton, the daughter of T. Carroll and Millie (Scott) Berry.
An outdoors person, Marie loved to cross-country ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, hike, camp, and even mow the lawn and shovel snow. Her early employment was with F. W. Woolworth Company in Houlton where she first met colleagues who would become her friends for life. In 1953 she married Phil Porter and three years later had a daughter, Debbie. This career move to homemaker and mother kept her busy and close to home first in Caribou, then Old Town, and finally in Rockland. After retirement, Marie and Phil enjoyed traveling with their camper from Alaska to Florida and many parts in between. In her later years, Marie lived with Debbie and her husband, Jess, where she divided her time between Friendship Cottage in Blue Hill and the Wilson Museum in Castine, while always keeping Friday afternoons open for card games with her dearest friends in Veazie.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Clayton Berry, and her husband of 54 years, Philip Wendell Porter.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra and her son-in-law, Jess Morehouse, of Orland, as well as several nieces and nephews.
