LAKEVILLE - Paul "Dutch" Cuno Kahl, 83, passed away peacefully Friday, May 4, 2012, at a local health care facility, after a private, yet stoic battle with cancer. He was born April 8, 1929, in Cincinnati, while his parents Marie and Paul were traveling in the U.S. on business. Paul returned as an infant to his parents' homeland of Germany, where he grew up. After the conclusion of World War II, Paul returned to the U.S. He settled in Middletown, Conn., married Dorothy Neumann, raised three children and worked as an electromechanical engineer. Paul and his family enjoyed many vacations fishing, camping and traveling in Maine and New Hampshire. After Dorothy's passing in 1975, Paul remarried and moved to Avon, Conn. Much of his free time was still spent hunting, fishing and vacationing in Maine. He and his wife, Marion, retired to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, only to have their home destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Paul then returned to New England and eventually settled in Lakeville to live his retirement in the woods and on the waterways of Maine. He then met and married his third wife, Daisy Annis, of Baileyville in the mid-1990s. Paul's most fond memories were those of fishing on West Grand Lake with his son and other family members. He also enjoyed tennis, skiing, boating, travel, dancing, cooking and watching the History Channel. Paul is survived by his three children, Linda Zemke of Boca Raton, Fla., Gail Kahl-Martel and her husband, Jon-Luc Martel, of Middletown, Conn., and Werner Kahl and his wife, Kathryn Sheridan-Kahl, of LaGrange; five beautiful granddaughters, two great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Regina Horner of California. In keeping with Paul's wishes, there will be no formal services. Family and friends are invited to join his son, Werner and his family for a celebration of Paul's life Saturday, May 26, in LaGrange.
