STONINGTON and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Elwell Shepard, 79, died April 28, 2012, in Zephyrills, Fla. He was born Sept. 1, 1932, in Stonington, son of Myron and Natalie (Libby) Shepard. He graduated from Stonington High School as president and valedictorian of the class of 1951. He was a lobsterman and was inducted into the Fisherman's Hall of Fame. He served for many years on the Stonington Appeals Board and as a director of the Lobster Co-op. He touched many lives as a minister of Community of Christ Church. He enjoyed patriotic holidays and lively family gatherings. As a snowbird, he enjoyed the warm winters and involvement in Zephyrhills Community of Christ Church. He was predeceased by his parents; and a special aunt, Vera Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janice Shepard of Stonington; children, Katherine Saunders of Southwest Harbor, Michael and Suzy Shepard, and Carla and John Wallace, all of Stonington, Holly and Thomas Teator of Claremore, Okla., and Jenni and Aaron Pettengill of Levasy, Mo.; grandchildren, Matthew and Patrick Shepard, Cindy Heanssler, John and Joseph Wallace, Sarah Jo Thomas, Heidi Harlan, Tyler, Zachery and Olivia Pettengill; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Julie, Zachery, Lacy, Addie Mae, Nolan and Shelby; sister, Jean Welch of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; and two nephews. He was much loved and respected by his extended family. A celebration of life and social gathering will be held 2 p.m. July 1 at Community of Christ Church, Stonington.
