MACHIAS - Elsie Esther (Armstrong) Johnson went to be with our Lord May 3, 2012, at Marshall Healthcare Facility, Machias. She was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Machiasport, to Leroy and Carrie Libby Armstrong Elder. She married Myron Johnson Oct. 3, 1936. Elsie was a stay at home mom until they started their family taxi service until they sold their business in 1969. She then was employed by the Teacher's College and worked in the cafeteria for a short time. She went on to sell Avon for approximately 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, cleaning and caring for her family. She loved walking, gardening, dancing and outdoor activities. She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Audiss of Machias; daughter, Carolyn Brady and husband, Ray, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Peter Scoville and wife, Kelley, and daughters, Amber and Megan, of Marshfield; Shawn Scoville and children, Jacob, Joshua, Jackson and Jocelyn, of Machias; Jennifer Richardson Geel and husband, Jeffery, of East Machias; Shane Richardson and wife, Beata, of Budapest, Hungary; Cara Gaines and husband, Bryan, and sons, Bradford, Michael and Noah, of Milton, Fla.; brother, Harvey Armstrong of Portland; baby sisters, Alice Armstrong Polley of Machias and Carrie Elder Shaw and husband, Reginald, of Cutler; many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents; stepfather, Clifford Elder; her loving husband, Myron Johnson; her infant grandson, Ricky Ray Richardson; her brothers, Warren, Albert and Percy Armstrong; sisters, Esther A. Fouhy and Eva A. Robinson; and special aunt, Greta Morang. A graveside memorial will be held 1 p.m. May 8 at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias. Another service will be held in June when her ashes will be buried. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marshall Healthcare Facility activities program, attention: Joanie Anthony, 9 Beal St., Machias, ME 04654.
