BAILEYVILLE - Dennis Arden Woodruff Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at his home. Dennis was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Calais, son of the late Conrad Woodruff and Gertrude Demarch. After graduating from Woodland High School, class of 1960, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War as an aviation mechanic until November 1964. After his service, Dennis returned home to Baileyville and began working for V.L. Tammaro until 1991. On Feb. 13, 1971, he married Mary Jean Cole, in Calais. He then worked for JD Thomas and last with Dead River as an oil burner technician, retiring in 2009. Dennis was a life member of Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion and Boyd-Smith Post No. 9779 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a scout leader for many years. Dennis was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school functions. In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Jean Woodruff, in 2010; and a brother, Forest Woodruff. Surviving are his three children, Dorie Dunton and her husband, Smokey, of Newburgh, Crystal Monk and her husband, Troy, of Baileyville and Dennis A. Woodruff II and his wife, Char, of Big Lake Township; 11 grandchildren; and two nephews, Forest and Craig Woodruff. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a celebration of Dennis' life will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
