DOVER-FOXCROFT and CORINNA - Dora N. Littlefield, 90, died April 11, 2012. She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Corinna, the eldest of three children to Fred and Ruth Nutter. She was a graduate of Corinna Union Academy, where she was recognized for her musical ability. After high school she married Lloyd Littlefield and together they operated Maple View Orchards, Newport. While working in the business, she became an active member in the Women's Cooperative Extension, teaching sewing and tailoring in her home. As the association's state president, Dora traveled to Australia to participate in an international conference. In 1964 a fire destroyed the homestead and the business. Dora moved to Corinna and began her 22-year career in banking. She worked for Newport Trust, Depositor's Trust and retired from Key Bank after serving as the Corinna branch manager. As was her family tradition, Dora was involved in her community by serving on various committees: board of appeals, economic development, comprehensive planning and Corinna Health Center. At her home she created lovely lush gardens, as well as helped beautify the town of Corinna as a member of Sebasticook Garden Club. She also enjoyed her participation in Pittsfield Garden Club. An avid learner she challenged herself by furthering her education in horticulture and earning her master gardener certification. In addition to gardening, her creativity included sewing, crafts and music. Music played a major part in her life, whether she was entertaining her family at the holidays, accompanying soloists or playing the organ at United Methodist Church, Corinna, which she did for 30 years. During the last six years while residing at Main Street West, Dover-Foxcroft, Dora continued her volunteerism by playing the piano for services at Hibbard's Nursing Home, including last week's Easter celebration. After hearing of her passing, Pastor Dean remarked, "Now there is more music in heaven." She is survived by her devoted loving daughters, Colleen Jones of Skowhegan and Dolores "Dodie" Curtis and her husband, Paul, of Guilford; her brother, Robert and his wife, Chris, of Hillsborough, N.C.; brother-in-law, Blaine Littlefield and his wife, Norma, of Burnham; grandchildren, Marc and Susan Curtis of Bridgewater, Mass., Eric Curtis and his partner, Evelyn Shufelt, of Guilford and Sarah Curtis of Lebanon, N.H. She was "Grammie-Moo" to her great-grandchildren, Kyle Curtis, Briana Shufelt and Corbin Shufelt of Guilford and Matthew, Zachary and Gabrielle Curtis of Bridgewater, Mass. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as special friends at Main Street West, Dover-Foxcroft. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Effie; her former husband, Lloyd Littlefield; her grandson, Aaron Lloyd Jones; and her special niece, "Muffin" Brosig. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Corinna United Methodist Church with Pastor Angela Tarbox officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Corinna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 418, Corinna, ME 04928 or Guilford Memorial Library, P.O. Box 177, Guilford, ME 04443.
