CALAIS - Anna Hilde Lister, 90, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Calais Regional Hospital. Hilde was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Grossen-Linden, Germany, daughter of the late Heinrich and Anna (Geissler) Menges. After graduating from Handels Schule in Germany with a degree in business, she worked as a business manager with an insurance office until relocating to Cooper in 1948. Hilde was employed for W.T. Grant Co., Calais, as a bookkeeper for many years. While there she met her one true love, Paul Lister, and they were married April 19, 1973. Along with her husband, Paul, they started their own business in Calais named The Kinder Shop, a children's clothing store. Hilde and Paul sold the store in 1986 and retired. She was past matron for both Pennamaquan Chapter No. 146 Order of the Eastern Star, Pembroke, and Trilby Chapter No. 89 O.E.S., Trilby, Fla.; a member of Orion Chapter No. 45 O.E.S., Calais; past high priestess of Ladies Oriental Shrine, Zephyrhills, Fla.; and was a member of Cathance Grange since 1950 where she held various offices. Hilde enjoyed knitting, cooking, spending time at their cottage on Cathance Lake and wintering in Florida. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Reinhold Menges. Surviving are her loving husband, Paul Lister of Calais; two daughters, Ingrid Morton and her husband, Richard, of Columbia, Md., and Christine Straub and her husband, Stephen, of Glenburn; Paul's children, Paul Lister and his wife, Peggy, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Gary Lister and his wife, Betty, of Rollingdam, New Brunswick, and George Lister of Calgary, Alberta; 10 grandchildren, Richard and Jeff Morton, Craig Straub, Erica Mutty, Nancy, Mark, Tanya, Robert and Donald Lister, and Debbie Smearer; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives in Germany. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Hilde's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church, 21 Calais Ave., Calais. Burial will be after at West Ridge Cemetery, Cooper.
