FARMINGTON - Lauriston "Larry" Erlon Swett, 88, a resident of Edgewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Farmington, where he had been a resident for the past three years, went to be with his wife, Gladys, in the early morning hours of July 22, 2014. He was born July 15, 1926 in Wilton, the third child of John and Mildred (Riggs) Swett.

He grew up in Jay and when he was 18 he joined the U.S.Army. He served as a Technician in the 20th Armored Infantry Battalion 10th Armored Division during WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post 4298 in Dexter, and was very proud of being WWII Veteran. On Nov. 15, 1946, he married the love of his life, Gladys E. Demont. In 1958 he moved his family, Gladys and daughter Peggy, to Dexter where he and Gladys worked and both retired from Dexter Shoe Co. He was a very hard working man and even after retirement, he had a wood working shop where he made Adirondack style lawn furniture, rocking chairs, straight chairs, love seats, wishing wells, bird houses and more. He loved his wood working shop. Larry also loved to go fly fishing. Every Memorial Day weekend for years he and a group of his friends went up to Horse Shoe Pond in Greenville and they always came home with a cooler full of freshly caught brook trout. After retirement he and Gladys enjoyed taking their camper all over New England and Canada. He and Gladys moved to Jay in 2009 to be closer to their daughter and her husband, Larry. In their earlier years, he and Gladys enjoyed going snowmobiling with friends, playing cards and having parties at their home.

Gladys passed away on January 25, 2011 after 64 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy and her husband, Larry Carr of Livermore, grandson, Jason Carr and four great-grandchildren: Lynsey, Courtney, Breanna and Ethan, his brother, Glendon Swett of Wilton, sister, Nathalie Jordan of Wilton, Durwood Swett and wife, Maxine of Jay, and a very special friend, Jody Therrien of Jay. He was predeceased by his sister, Roberta Thurston, sister-in-law, Shereen Swett and brother-in-law, Orlando "Shine" Jordan.
