ENFIELD - Vinal Applebee Jr., passed away peacefully, June 15, 2014, after a brief stay at Cummings Nursing home following a heart attack at home. He was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Enfield, and lived on beautiful Cold Stream Pond most of his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Marylin (Welch), married for 53 years, his sister, Marvel Bacha of Farmington, his daughter, Linda Shorey, son, Vinal Applebee III and his wife, Allison (Leighton), daughters, Dawn Cook

and Jean L'ltalien and her husband, Marco L'ltalien and his grandchildren, Adam L'ltalien, Chelsea Taylor, Nicholas L'ltalien, Miranda Cook, Zachary Applebee, and Sarah Cook. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernice (Snowman) and Vinal Applebee Sr., of Enfield, sisters, Muriel DiBonaventura of Newton, MA and Althea Lowell of Lincoln.

Vinal was a graduate of Lee Academy and was an active member at Enfield Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for many years, and more recently attended Lincoln United Methodist Church. Vinal was an avid outdoor sportsman man and a registered Maine Guide. He once set a record that for first place in the The One That Didn't Get Away Club in 1972, when he landed a 5 lb 2 oz brook trout from a local stream. His second love was flying. Over the years he owned several airplanes and often flew remotely for hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed taking people up for their first time airplane ride. Vinal was a successful businessman owning and running Applebee Bros garage and Chevrolet dealership in Enfield following his father. He was majority owner and operator of A&S Motors automobile dealership in Lincoln following which he taught automotive mechanics at Region III Vocational School in Lincoln and lead several students to State and region competition awards.

Friends may call from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Roy Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Applebee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lincoln United Methodist Church or the Word of God in Burlington.
