DEDHAM - William Jay French Sr., 81, passed away peacefully Dec. 30, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home. William was born July 25, 1931, in New Haven, Conn., the son of George and Leah French.

William worked for more than 25 years at Eastern Fine Paper. In his spare time William was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping, as well as gardening, riding his John Deere tractor, cutting wood, and making homemade furniture for family and friends. William will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

William is survived by his children: son, William J. French Jr. and his wife, Catherine, and their children, Michelle Graves and her husband, Jeff, William French III and Matthew French; son, Steven E. French and fiancee, Alison Rutan, and her children, Ingrid Lake and her husband, Benjamin, and Gyrth Rutan; daughter, Marie L. Smith and her husband, Blake D. Smith III and their children, Kaila Smith, Jessica Smith and her fiance, Ryan Costain, and Christina Smith and fiance, Brandon Gomm; daughter, Dorothy A. Kehr and her husband, Glenn, and their children, Alisha Savoy and her husband, Steven, and Heather Kehr; a brother, Richard French; sisters, Linda Leach, Gayle Picard, Brenda Lymburner and Carol Gray; great-grandchildren, Emma, Hailey, Khloe, Quarra, Grady and Aidan; nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of 56 years, Viola M. French; brothers, John, George and Paul; sisters, Noreen, Patricia, Sandra and Nancy; and a grandson, Michael French. We give special thanks to Heather, "Papa's sidekick," for all the special care that she graciously gave.

Private family interment will be at a later date at Central Cemetery, Dedham. Memorial contributions in William's memory may be made to New Hope Hospice, P.O.
