PLYMOUTH - Walter H. Burpee, 73, died Aug. 3, 2012, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Greenbush, the son of David and Maxine (White) Burpee.
He married Phyllis Bourgoine in 1961. At an early age Walter was a hard worker. He worked in the woods using horses to bring out the wood. He worked at Perry Morrill and Sons, Building Contractors, as a heavy equipment operator for more than 53 years. Walter was a longtime member of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge No. 49 of Newport. He always enjoyed the outdoors especially while hunting at his special place, his camp in Greenbush.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis (Bourgoine) Burpee of Plymouth; his daughter, Debbie Burpee and her companion, Harlen Orcutt, of Dixmont; his great-granddaughter, Brittany Laurent of Dixmont; his brothers and their wives, Russell and Marie Burpee of Eddington and Paul and Victoria Burpee of Glenburn; his sister and her husband, Arlene (Burpee) and Wayne Slade of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by a great friend, Gordon Boyington. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Jessica Gibbons. The family gives a special thank you to hospice worker Debra Welch for all her help and concern.
At Walter's request there are no formal services. A celebration of Walter's life will be held 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at Walter's deer camp in Greenbush. For directions contact the family.
