DEER ISLE - Virginia Emma Emerton Eaton, 89, went to be with the Lord, Feb. 3, 2013. She was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Blue Hill, to Raymond and Esther Emerton.

Virginia attended the Sunshine Christian Advent Church and led a life based on her belief and love of the Lord, a gift shared with her children and all she came to know and love throughout her life. At the age of 14, she joined the Grange and throughout her 75 years with the Grange she served as both master as well as its chaplain. Virginia was a life-long wife and homemaker, her home was always open to family and friends. While she was raising her children she enjoyed never knowing how many mouths would need to be fed at her kitchen table, and as her family grew she enjoyed softball games, holidays, family cookouts, and spending time "down back" at the shore. Virginia also worked as an in home caregiver for others and she treasured the opportunity to work with many wonderful people throughout her career.

She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Lester and Leo Emerton; two stepchildren, Brenda Murphy and Bradford Eaton; two daughters, Laura Eaton and Donella Weymouth; and son, Raymond Eaton. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Samuel Eaton; three sons, Wayne Eaton and wife, Rosemary, Kendall Eaton and wife, Nancy, and Ronald Eaton and wife, Debbie; two daughters, Marilyn Sylvester and husband, Dan, Wanda Haskell and husband, Charles; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pastor David Davis will officiate a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Sunshine Advent Christian Church. A reception will be immediately after at Sunshine Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to CancerCare of Maine, 33 Whiting Hill Road, Suite 21, Brewer, ME 04412. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Stonington.
