Violet graduated from Houlton High School, Ricker Classical Institute and later attended the University of Maine. She taught school in her early years and was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended First United Methodist Church, St., Petersburg, Fla., and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bangor, where she was very active in the church singing in the choir for many years and was a popular, caring and thoughtful soul among her friends. Every day was a joy to Violet who loved to sing around the house, was passionate about gardening and had a reputation of overfeeding her guests. Oh, how those pies will be missed! A snowbird, she spent winters in Florida enjoying the sunshine and serving as tour guide to visiting friends and family with countless trips to Disney and Busch Gardens. She never tired of entertaining and was full of life. She had many hobbies including pottery, sewing and crafts. Always up for an adventure, she had many good stories to share. Violet was a huge harness racing fan and would never miss an opportunity to watch her granddaughter race. You could always spot her in the crowd proudly wearing her granddaughter's red and white racing colors. At the end of her life she was ready for the good Lord to take her home.
Surviving are three grandchildren, David Grondin of Bangor, Gina Gaudet and husband, George, of Amesbury, Mass., and Valerie Grondin and her fiance, Heath Campbell, of Corinna; one great-granddaughter, Camille Gaudet; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her only child, Jane Grondin, in 1986; two brothers and a sister, Elmer and Irvine Grant and Madeline Wright; and her husbands, Charles McNerny, William Mitchell, James Kenney and Innis MacLean.
Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A graveside service and burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor of First Baptist Church, Bangor, presiding.
