BANGOR - Vera Sleight, 84, died May 17, 2012, at a local health care facility. She was born April 11, 1928, in Bangor, the daughter of Stuart and Leona (Griffin) Lynne. Vera's early life of education in Bangor was followed by marriage to Richard Sleight, her husband of almost 50 years, and together they raised their seven children at their home in Winterport. Vera for many years was the owner and operator of Whispering Elms, a state licensed boarding home in Winterport. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard; and her son, Richard Jr. Vera is survived by her daughters, Linda Burns and her husband, Del, of Hudson, Marilyn Rohr of Norco, Calif., Janet Sleight of Bangor and Sheila Hoffman and her husband, Craig, of Riverside, Calif.; her sons, David Sleight and his companion, Linda Halstead, of Hudson and Donald Sleight and his wife, Debbie, of Hampden; daughter-in-law, Dottie Sutherland of Port Clinton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Robert and Gerald Lynne; many nieces and nephews. A private remembrance with interment will be held at a future date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
