BANGOR - Velma Parker Libby Craig, 96, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at a local health care facility after a brief illness. She was born March 8, 1916, in Connor, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (West) Parker.

Velma graduated from Presque Isle High School and lived in the Ashland area. She belonged to Ashland Union Congregation Church and its women groups; Tillikum Chapter No. 99 Order of Eastern Star; University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Ashland Grange No. 127. Velma enjoyed knitting for her family and church, she also braided rugs, quilted, canned and did embroidery and needlepoint. Her friends, relatives, church and Oxbow camp were very important to her. She liked to travel and collect anything that would fit into her Oxbow camp.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Etta Davenport and friend, Michael Cassidy, of Old Town; her stepdaughter Chrystal C. Ouellette and her husband, Philip, of Portage and Niceville, Fla.; a sister, Elsie Gibson of Ashland; four stepgrandchildren, Laurie Bean, Lisa Colman, Kenneth Ouellette and George Ouellette; eight great-stepgrandchildren, many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Charles Burtt Libby, in 1953; her second husband, L.O.CIyde Craig, in 1979; two sisters, Phyllis Harris and Doris Kneher; and one brother, Harold "Ted" Parker. A special thank you to the staff of Westgate Manor for all their loving care during the past 12 years. Their kindness to Velma and the quality of life they provided greatly enriched her days.
A memorial service will be held in Ashland in the spring.
