OLD TOWN - Tamela Cozette Glenn transcended to the next level of her spiritual journey on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. Born Jan. 10, 1960, in Starkville, Miss., the family moved to Old Town in January 1973 where she lived most of her life.

Tamela related to all animals, but had a special affinity for dogs and horses.

Tamela had Summa Cum Laude college degrees in Philosophy and Art. She received the Virtue Award for Outstanding Student; Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. After college, Tamela lived in New York City working as a writer's assistant for avant guard poet, Jim Carroll. She was an artist: painter, actress, writer, singer-songwriter and wildlife photographer. She created the Theatre of the Silver Dragon, Orono, for children. As the Artistic Director she wrote and directed her original plays for young actors. Her primary objective was to increase their vocal projection, comfort level on stage and benefit them in future employment involving public speaking. Tamela created the Spiraling Path Home Daily Inspirational blog featuring original, artistic photo-images, film reviews, and articles on spirituality and well-being.

During her journey as an artist she discovered her passion for the healing arts especially in the area of eldercare. She became a Nationally Certified, Maine Licensed Body Worker specializing in Craniosacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional (trauma) Release. Her practice was focused on acute and chronic pain management and recovery, facilitating emotional and physical trauma release, including birth trauma; and enhancing general wellness. Tamela did on-site Therapeutic Massage at Dirigo Pines Retirement Community, Orono. She traveled to England studying McTimoney-Corely Spinal Therapy, Vibromuscular Harmonization and the Equine Touch, and worked extensively treating sporting horses (and humans and dogs) throughout the UK.

A friend described her as being open-hearted and very wise. When she died, Tamela was in the process of applying for graduate school in the field of social work so she could become a better advocate for the health and wellbeing of the elderly.

Tamela was predeceased by her father, Rollin C. Glenn. She is survived by her mother, Betty Glenn; her sister, Holly Glenn Denton; her brother, Wade R. Glenn; her nephew, Ryan Robert Cahill; and neice, Zahrah Wabiha Glenn.

A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tamela's memory to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, 263 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401.
